When I first found this site it was right before the official end of the old Battle Glade and the building of this new message board. The first thread I posted on was authored by Andruillus. It was a thread about his concern for the future of the Battle Glade, and after much brainstorming and with active collaboration amongst the senior members we came out of that slump with a new site and new lease on life, so to speak. Thinking back on that now I wonder if it's time for such a thread here.
Activity on this site has always been low, but lately it has been truly abysmal. With Games Workshop putting out Books at the pace they have been, and with many of us jumping on those new armies or playing against them, there should be plenty of opportunity for tactics discussion. I think that we can agree that of all the pre-Vampire armies out there, we are the best suited for handling the new breed of army book. This should be enough to drive activity back up, but for whatever reason this hasn't been the case.
We have 241 members, according to today's statistics. Now, I know its not the responsibility of the Moderator team to engage the members with creative discussions and by personally authoring tactics threads, but with activity so low maybe there is more that can be done. I applaud the efforts that people have made so far, Mach in particular has authored quite a number of active tactics and army composition threads, but for some reason when people stop by to check the place out there is either nothing new to respond to or no reason to believe that if you start a new thread anyone will be there to respond.
Before the switch to phpBB version 3 the statistics would show us who had visited each day. I've been paying attention to that and I've noticed that a lot of people have, for the most part, stopped coming around. I realize, of course, that many of them may have stopped by but hadn't registered so weren't logged in the statistics, but for having so many members for just over a 2 year run it seems like that most of them, especially the newer members who could've been inspired to post more actively, have just given up.
I posted a battle report not too long ago that I was really excited about but I only received a handful of responses to it. That's not much incentive to post another one.
So I thought I'd start by offering this thread as a place for members to stand up and let us know that they are still there. A place for us speak up and reaffirm our love for the Wood Elves and our appreciation for this site, to let each other know that this is still a place for gamers to work together to uplift the quality of our play and our modeling, and to talk about our successes and struggles.
In addition to this, I will post in the General's Tent two Tactica threads for the 2 newer army books. These new books have made a lot of ground towards clearing up the bitterness of the Daemons and VC, so they should serve as a good example of how well we can come together and talk about tactics that can work, not just against those specific lists but, can be worked into an "all comers" mentality as well.
I hope that everyone who stops by will see this thread and stand up and be counted. Then I hope to see you in the General's tent to discuss how to strengthen our tactics against these new opponents while keeping ourselves strong against the others.
So com'on. Stand up and shout!

Well, obviously I am still around, sort of.
I knew the forced switchover would be happening and when it did I got in the admin pannel and tweaked the settings so it was as close to what we had as I could manage. I almost lost the banner image! The article pages are unfortunately gone for good.
I've moved on to other projects (in the process of a Warriors of Chaos army centering on a Valkia conversion) and there aren't many questions about the Wood Elf army book left to be answered and everyone seems to have figured out how to play the army or are happy to look through old threads for their answers.
It is also summer (though it doesn't feel like it here in Winnipeg ATM) and the tournaments are few and far between. This time of year sees a decline in activity on the forum annually.

Hi! I'm new here. Call me Declis (a play on Teclis, as I am a large High Elves fan.)
I also pledge my support behind Willowdark. I am an Ork player, and I have come from a forum called the Waaagh. And there, activity is constant. (I sound as if I am discussing another planet. Now I shall demand to be taken to your Highborn!)
But seriously, it does seem nothing much is happening on here. I would like to contribute more to the tactics and army lists section, and I'll always try to contribute to the painting section, but for one thing: I haven't yet got an army (I'll be getting one soon though!). Either way, I'm trying my best (I've posted in the Halls of Loec).
Either way, I would like to say that when I didn't post for a day or so (I don't have much to say without the forementioned army), I was asked what was up. So, there are some members (let's refer to them as Waywatchers) who try hard to us little Glade Guard. And I'm thankful.
Anyway, when it comes to Wood Elves, I've seen 4 other forums, but this one seems to capture the more lighter side to playing Wood Elves, rather than a very serious Asraii named one. And I like Wood Elves, so I'm gonna stick around!
Anyway, if I stop rambling, I'll try to make sure I add as much as I can to this. And I'll post battle reports every so often (I imagine writing every battle will quickly grow boring for both you and me!)
Rambling over! You can start reading again!

Well, that's a good start.
@Reddz. I didn't start this thread looking for answers. I'm sure that everyone has there own reasons for drifting. I myself have started a very ambitious Dark Elf project, so I can understand any and all reasons for this slump.
But I started this thread as an opportunity for us to pull back together, something tangible to counter the drift. And I sincerely hope that others feel the longing enough to speak up.

I'm still lurking. Hopefully I'll be posting some dryad/eternal guard conversions in a few weeks as soon as I get the appropriate tools.

I am still around, though I've been more of a lurker of late, as the last 2 years had me taking a break from playing the woodies. I ran my Tomb Kings for a little over a year while I built and painted up a greenskin army, which I then played for a year. I usually do this...run an army for a while, using more or less the same list, and learn the best uses of it...what works well, what doesn't, etc.
I have now put the greenskins back on the shelf, and will be returning to the Woodies, which I will be taking to an RTT on the 20th. I had a practice game last night and schooled a Warriors of Chaos army generaled by a seasoned vet. His list was fairly soft (Wulfric, Lord, BSB, caddy, lots of marauder horse, 2 units of marauders, 2 units of dogs, nurgle chosen warriors, nurgle knights, NO Warshrines!). The list I am running now is a L4 Spellweaver backed up by 3 alter nobles, 4 units of dryads, some shooting, wardanders, wild riders, treeman, eagle. I'm happy to dispense what wisdom I have on the woodies (been playing them for 6 years now), but I will be quite busy, as I'm also the organizer of Bayou Battles (an Indy GT in Houston, TX held in August).
It has been a shame that the traffic on the Glade has dwindled, as I learned so much from the original 6th ed. Tactica that Mach posted way back in the day. I'd love to see some well written guides on how to handle the newer armies...what tactics to use to beat the Helm of Comandment bunker, how to take down the 2 Engine Lizards, etc. I don't know if there has been a huge exodus to Asrai.org (I don't check there often), but the wisdom that used to be shared on this site was what made it worth coming to. Build that back up, and the masses will return.

That sounds like a fun list Geofreak. Why not stop by the Quartermaster's Armoury and post it so we can get a good look at the intricacies. Multiple Alter builds are always interesting since there are so many different schools of thought on how to build an effective alter. Does your Lvl4 perform well at tournaments, or is she just an economical heavy magic defense? Even if you don't want to change it, most of the time when I post a list I really have no intention of changing it, it can still be a good topic for discussing tactics.
I'm sure that organizing a tourney is extremely time consuming, but perhaps afterward you could write up a report about the armies that were there, who won vs who placed well and what were some of the tactics that you saw deployed. Will you be playing in the tourney? If so, there may still be opportunities to talk to the judges and other organizers, as well as the players, to see if there are themes and army builds that were common. Especially if there is one or two successful Wood Elf players there.
These are some of the things that can be done to keep activity up, by posting topics with more creative themes than just "how do we beat this army or that." Having a good overview of an entire tournament environment would be a huge asset to the members here looking to build "all comers" lists. Pictures of display cases can be helpful as well.

Fear not, The Green Man still walks the forest glades, dances with Dryads under the harvest moon, sups ale in the corner of a tavern, unseen by human eyes.

I'm here. I'm mostly lurking and asking for help every now and again I dont stop by a whole lot but will make the effort as I do like the site. I have been getting soundly thrashed by WoC recently so dont really feel I have much to offer in the way of successful tactics but I will offer what I can.

I'm back (finally)! Sorry I've been gone for so long without any word. First, I moved house, which didn't have a phone line, and only today have we finally gotten the broadband equipment. Sorry.
But yes, I am back (for better or worse, you be the judge), and I shall endevour to make up for lost time.

This thread is doing what I meant it to do. I'm glad to here from everyone, and look forward to the increase in activity I've been seeing.

I'm here, too, but don't get to play much & will have no games for the next few months, as Baby™ v2.0 arrived two weeks ago (girl, 6lb 12oz for those that like to know that sort of thing).
Most of my forum viewing is therefore theory-hammer. I've also recently got a few Brets, so have been over there some of the time. Not played them yet, as they aren't all glued up yet.

I live!
I can even report a Mach sighting a couple Months ago at the Quake city rumble. I can even bear witness to his dedication to Isha (e.g. Screaming All prain ISHA at the top of his lungs) and the just rewards (passed ward saves )
@Mach, it was great finally meeting you! Had a great time at the QCR
