I hooked up with a friend and played a 2K games with my WEs vs. his DEs. I decided to try and play a forest spirit army, and there was only one general that I thought I should bring to such a game, and that is Drycha herself. I let my opponent know I would be bringing her, just in case he wanted to bring a special character himself. The list I brought was:

Drycha
(rolled call of the hunt and fury of the forrest)
Branchwraith, lvl 1 mage, Murder of Spites, Befuddlement of Mischiefs
Branchwraith, lvl 1 mage, A Lamentation of Despairs
Noble on Great Stag, wild rider kindred, Helm of the Hunt, & (killng blow spear, I forget then name)
8 dryads x4
4 treekin
8 wild riders
2 treemen

The DE list (from memory):
Lvl 4 mage on a cold one,
Lvl 2 mage on a elf stead
Noble on a stead
Noble on a cold one
5 dark riders w/ repeater crossbows x4
9 harpies
9 cold one knights
2 cold one chariots
hydra

I’m not a very good battle report writer, so I will just give a synopsis of the game.

The game right off the bat favored me. I had three woods on the board and when I set up my free wood, it really was a disadvantage for my opponent. I deployed Drycha, with a unit of dryads, another unit of dryads, the wild riders, and one treeman. The others I held in reserve to bring in later. He had a very strong center with the hydra, 2 chariots and cold one knights holding it down. He put his harpies and two dark riders on the left flank, across from my wild riders, and the other two dark riders units were on the right flank.

I started first and moved my wild riders forward. I did not move any other units, who all happened to be safely hidden in some woods. He then moved everything closer to me, trying to engage into combat. Magic did not do much this round for either of us. He miscast on his first attempt. His shooting killed some of my wild riders.

On turn two, I charged into his harpies with my wild riders, I did not want them to get behind me and worry about behind me while I was trying to deal with his dark riders. They subsequently died in a hurry.

He tried to position his Hydra to get a flame breath attack on my wild riders. With all my treesinging though, I was able to move a forest to block his LOS. He ended up turning his hydra around him to attack a unit of dryads with a branchwraith, who Drycha awakened in the forest behind him. The move worked and I was able to bait the hydra into the woods (after he fried some dryads with the breath weapon) and through treesinging, I did enough damage to it to bring the hydra down to one wound.

The dryads chose to flee when the hydra declared a charge. It was a gamble that did not pay off, because the never rallied and then fled off the board. I was able however to bring my wild riders around the rear (after taking out the remaining dark riders) to engage the hydra. Poor rolls on my part got the remaining wild riders killed, but my boble took care of the beast, and the stag killed the two handlers. It wouldn’t have lasted my longer anyway, because another treeman answered Drycha’s call when the hydra was loose in the center.

Image

On the other side of the board’s center, the cold one knights and the chariots were set up in a position to charge Drycha and another branchwraith led unit, both of whom were hiding in a wood. On the other side of the wood, waiting to shoot, were two units of dark riders. Close to Drycha was a noble with the Ring of Hotek. He got to close to and the unit had to make a terror check. He failed, and more, he failed to rally. They eventually ran off the board. Drycah used fury of the forest and decimated the remaining dark rider unit. I felt safe enough now to try and bait some of his units to charge me in a wood. He did not, so I ended up double charging his cold one knights with both of my dryad units.

Image

I won the combat, and after my treeman smashed one of his chariots, he was in position to destroy the rest of the army.

Image

My other treeman was able to charge his Supreme Sorceress and make goo out of her.

Needless to say, it was a massacre for the Wood Elves. That should make our dark kindred think twice about trying to raid in Athel Loren.

I hoped you enjoyed the read and liked the pics.

A cold one is a strange mount for a level 4 sorceress, as you don't want to risk stupidity stealing your magic phase.
I'd like to know her spells, as IMHO, she was a risk. Knowing that you were bringing Drycha means a very limited ranged potential, I would have used a dark pegasus or an elven steed, not a cold one.

I guess Drycha makes a different game. I'd be quite interested in your opponent's opinion on her, specially her ability to deep strike with some units.

Oh, BTW: dryads are immune to psychology, and so cannot flee as a charge reaction. Remember that next time ;)

You can actually still cast spells when your mount goes stupid, its clearly stated, however, I still wouldn't but a sorcerss on a cold one, you really don't wont her getting stuck wandering around . . .

Actually, pg. 79 under "Mounts' Psychology" clearly says that any character riding a stupid mount who fails their leadership test will become stupid themselves.

So no, just being in the unit doesn't make her stupid, but having a stupid mount does.

He failed his stupidity check twice, it did make a difference in the game.

I asked my opponent if he thougt Drycha was over-powered. He did not think so, but in all reality, she did not do much in the game. I am playing this list again tonight against Bretonians. I am interested to see how she performs against them.

(Sorry about all the typos, I was in a hurry when writing the battle report)
