I posted my list for fun over at Warseer and I was surprised by how many people suggested this guy. I've been trying to put a BSB in my list for a while but I felt like he'd have to go in a unit of Wardancers and, with my Highborn already, I started to think that I was over investing in the units. I have 2 units of 7 with command and I was going to put one character in each. But now I'm thinking that I can take the Eagle rider and use the excess points to consolidate the Wardancers into one bigger unit for my Highborn.

He would be a Noble, BSB on an Eagle with the SotCm and the SoM. I could screen him against shooting and would never have to commit him to combat if I didn't want to. Conversely, with the ward save and magic weapon he could be strong against lite auxiliary units, even Cairn Wraiths.

Is this something worth thinking about? Has anyone here had success with this guy.

For some reason, I have been very reluctant to run any eagle-mounted characters this edition. Yes, part of that is the elimination of the "flying bolt thrower" from the preview list (I had a nice conversion for that), but partly it is because of the vulnerability of the eagle to shooting/magic. The SotCM is a nigh mandatory choice, which doesn't leave a whole lot more for magical toys unless you're running a Lord. The BSB option might be good if your sole purpose is to never get the guy in combat. The flight movement would provide more flexibility in getting him in the right position for those extra break test chances, but if the eagle dies, the noble on foot could be stuck out of position.

Give him a try! A few games are probably the best way to test drive the build, and you may find other uses for him or better ways to equip him.
