Just a couple quick notes about some features.

KARMA - Karma is a reward that you may give your fellow posters. Once you have made atleast 5 posts yourself you may give Karma (positive or negative) to other posters by clicking the + or - icon under their avatar. YOU CAN ONLY GIVE ONE KARMA POINT PER 24HOURS. So each day, if you find one really great post you can reward that user by giving them a Karma (or if you find a particularly bad poster you can give them negative Karma). The Admins will keep tabs on everyones Karma and those whos Karma reaches certain limits will either be rewarded or encouraged to improve their posting styles.

POST COUNTS - if you have less than 5 posts you cannot give Karma. If you have 5 or more then you can. This is the only reward for having multiple posts (oh, and your title changes from "Wood Elf" to "Asrai") So don't spam the board looking for cool forum titles, they don't exist and only encourage spamming. The 5 post limit for Karma is there to prevent ghost accounts for killing someones Karma rating.

AVATAR IMAGES - currently they have a size limit of 80x80. This is to keep page loading times up. Though if enough demand is made (already have 2 requests) I may consider raising it to 100x100. Also, these images will be looked at from time to time by the Admins for appropriateness...

SIGNATURES - please keep them reasonable in length. There is a character limit but banners can be stupid big at times, just don't, for everyones sake.

COLOR SCHEME - this one is dicey. I had access to about 100 different color schemes, and only 15% of those were of a green of some sort. This one quite literally was the best. I do not have access to the code as this is a "hosted" forum. Please do not ask for a change in the colors, as I cannot accomodate it.

PHPBB 2 vs 3 - the "host" is currently in the process of beta testing version 3 on their servers, in all likelyhood we will be migrating sometime in 2008.

The bad sides of having a pre-installed version of phpBB... You don't have ftp access?

This is more a preventative measure than a necessary one. As it is a "hosted" forum I have no idea what load other "hosted" forums cause on the "host".

I didn't mean you Nag well, not specifically. This is a general concern that was brought up on the original forum at one point and well, it's just a darn good idea.

No, no FTP access, and really no need for it. I have seen more congrats than hates over the color scheme so far, just posted this for completeness and in case anyone was interested.

Really, this is the best "free" solution on the 'net and it's a good'un. http://www.freeforums.org if you want more details on what is running/hosting this bad boy. If you are looking to offer server space and you have the bandwidth (the real problem with self hosting, or I would have done it myself under http://www.reddz.com which I host in my house) be my guest.

Considering I just changed host for Asrai.org (got five times the server space compared to my old host - now 5000 MB - Asrai uses some 7-800 of those). As for traffic, I got 250 GB/month. Asrai.org uses about 40 per month. I think we could fit in this site there too.
