In January the Steelers became the first NFL team in history to win 6 Super Bowls. Not just around here but a lot of national media were calling the Steelers orginization one of the very best in all professional sports. They've been family own since the beginning and have shown more loyalty to their staff and players than any team out their, and they've been rewarded for it. The fact that, in the year they won Super Bowl 40, Jerome Bettis took a huge pay cut to free up cap room for the Steelers to bring in talent to support Roethlisberger and the rest of the team demonstrates that strong sense of loyalty.
Now, in the same year that the Steelers win the NFL championship, the Pittsburgh Penguins bring home the Stanley Cup after a full 7 game series against a team that is, by most accounts, the best team in hockey. They overcame huge adversity, being the first team in, I believe, something like 30 years to win after going down 2-0 against the home team. They are only the second team in history to loose a final one year only to face the same team in the finals the next and win. Their series against the Capitals was epic, going seven games after they trailed early, only to absolutely sweep the Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference finals. And all this after falling to tenth place in February.
It has just been incredible for me as a Pittsburgher to watch these two teams in the last four or five years, with so many accomplishments between them and so many stories. Five years ago the Penguins were near bankrupt and were threatening to sell and move to another city. Who would've considered then that Mario Lemieux would buy them and lead them to a championship 17 years after he won their last one.
I just had to take the time to express my appreciation for the city of Pittsburgh and the excellent sports organizations that live here. My location will reflect this from now on.
The confluence of the rivers. The city of bridges. A great city for sports.

Having grown up in Cleveland, I have nothing but hatred in my heart for anything Pittsburgh! But in reality, this is just pure jealousy, and not much else. Enjoy it! By the way, how are those Pirates doing?
