Not so much a full report, more just an overview. No pictures as of yet. I totally failed to bring my camera, but the store camera was in use for a few shots, I'm just waiting for them to be posted before I can share them here.

My opponent and I showed up at 9:50 and we were let in the store to begin setting up. Blind deployment with boxes spanning the middle of the two tables (we decided we didn't need the extra 4' between). We were done setting up our models by 10:45, including scout deployment. Rolling for turns, I took the initiative and went first.

He had one woods in the middle of his deployment zone of a largish size, but he had filled it with two units of skinks spread around so I could not use it for Waywatchers. Cheeky bugger. However he let a couple treesingings go off on them on the first turn that saw them flee the woods in time for my Wardancer Lord and Unit to pop into them on my second turn.

Just to the right of center of my deployment I had a Treeman, 20 Eternal Guard, 33 Eternal Guard (General/BSB), Treeman, 20 Eternal Guard. Across from them but more to my right were Slann w/ 20 Saurus, Slann General/BSB w/ 20 Temple Guard, Lord Kroak w/ 20 Slann. All spawned to be immune to psychology. This would have been ok if not for having 12 Cold Ones with Old Blood and Old Blood on Carnisaur on the other side of center. So a Treeman and 20 Eternal Guard were sent to deal with them, the Alter taking shots to reduce numbers before engaging.

My Dragon Rider got popped on the bottom of the first turn by a bound item that initiates an extended toughness test... nasty. He had already burned me through dispel dice and I didn't want to waste a scroll on something I had a 50% chance of surviving unscathed... my mistake. The Dragon failed it's reaction test (I failed a lot of leadership tests though out...) and proceeded to "whimper" just outside my deployment zone. Drat!

Ok, this is going to start getting out of order... but here are other interesting bits:

Unit of 33 w/ General and BSB were magically charged by the left-most Slann, somehow I won combat by 2 (mostly overkill from my General w/ Annoyance vs his Unit Champ) and some timely saves by my Eternal Guard and poor saves by the Saurus. Even with his General and BSB next door they broke and ran and were chased down. This set up a next turn charge on his Generals unit by the Eternal Guard and Wardancers. Unfortunately this was against Temple Guard who had the ability to strike first once (a totem/plaque?) and his Old Blood in the unit got lucky against my Generals challenge (with Annoyance he still hit twice and killed him!). So without the Rhymer's Harp ward and his Temple Guard making saves he was able to allocate hits on my BSB and kill him and make my Wardancers and Eternal Guard flee (but not before my Wardancer Lord killed his Old Blood). He chased and caught the Guard, otherwise he would have exposed his unit to the third block of Eternal Guard on the flank.

He had a skink priest with the Cloak of Feathers that he used to position for Lord Kroaks spells, but that was only part of what the little bugger did. A treeman, running from the Cold Ones and Carnisaur, happened to pass by, and the priest ran him down and then ran down a unit of Wardancers that were running from another unit of Saurus and Kroxigors (my dryads didn't make a charge to help...) 285+201 before 3 Waywatchers nailed him to a tree.

The third Slann, on the left hand table center, decided to charge the Dragon for some late game points. Bad idea. He's Unbreakable whilst whimpering, and held them up for just long enough for a Treeman, Wild Rider Noble and 2 Wild Riders to hit their rear and a full unit of Dryads to hit the flank. Outnumbering fear/terror causing for the win! And my second Slann of the day.

Everywhere models were removed from the table, turns flew by. I was out of dispel scrolls, down 2 Weavers and the Staff of Sorcery by the bottom of 3. But he lost 2 Slann by the bottom of 4.

The Wardancers that ran from the Temple Guard rallied on turn 5 and he turned the Temple Guard towards them the other 20 Eternal Guard running from magic casualties. I charged with the Wardancer Lord and 6 remaining Wardancers on the top of turn 6. He... flees? I was 5" away, he needs 6+ to make it, and rolls 2+3. Ouch. That's his General/BSB and my third Slann. After the game we roll out what would have happened had he held his ground. He was down to 5 Temple Guard, no unit champ. Using extra attacks I kill them all and the Slann breaks and is run down. Ah well.

So at the end, Lord Kroak is still alive having been just out of my reach for the entire game. But after adding up what is left and subtracting from 10K and adding table quarters, captured banners, and other points and comparing it comes out to (in my favour) "4"... ummm... then I recall that I get 200 points for each 2nd gen Slann! 604! Much better... but still a draw...

Very hard to do up a report for something so large, but we did manage to get everything in and be out of the store for 7:30. A total of 9 1/2 hours. We fully intend on doing this again... but not for a while, and maybe only 5K... :P

WoW! That sounds like a very well fought battle kindred :) Congratz!

You should be aware that you probably caused a turmoil in the winds of magic by slaughtering 3 Slanns in one day :P

Isn't there something in the Lizard book saying that if you lose a second gen slann the best you can get is a draw? Just Kroak? Am I making things up?

Also, making a report is hard, but pics are not. Bribe the store owner, and get us some pics.

With pics, epic games earn you karma

Salnihra, yes I am sure they are.

Elhann, the rule you are thinking of is indeed only for Lord Kroak.

As for pics, I'm still waiting on them from the black shirt. They are forthcoming...

Sounds like a truly epic game. Hope you can get us some pictures, because it would be awesome to see those eternal guard units.

Pictures!

Finally...

http://manitoba.gw-local.com/20000-poin ... hf-battle/

Some are not the best of quality, and nothing "up close" but the store was busy and the staff didn't have much time for taking snaps.

Enjoy!

[edit]And yes, I am wearing a tool belt... containing 150+ dice, templates, 2 tape measures and various counters. It was a big help![/edit]

Thank you. It must have been a great game.

Your minis seem to be painted really well. Nice to see a board with that many models. You can't really tell how the battle went, but it must have been fun.

Yep, that settles it.

You're crazy. Both.

Thanks for the pics
