Never seen the model, this is awesome!
I would like to know how you have painted the gems. How did you get them so shniy?
The leaves on her robe look great. I am trying to make a shield with leaves, but I don't have enough patience..

Hey guys! Well to start off I want to thank the Glade for the support of these articles and encourage any & all questions. To answer the first question about bitz used...
Unicorn: this is the basic unconverted unicorn from the 5th edition Bretonian Fey Enchantress. I only added greenstuff leaves for the saddle. (I saw this done on someone elses unicorn model long ago on the web, whose it was I don't know but thanks for the inspiration).
The bow and quiver is a goblin bow & quiver (plastic). The side satchel is from the old night goblin sprue (I think).
The staff is a cut down High Elf plastic standard from either the archer or spearmen sprue. The crystal is just a cut up piece of sprue and the little crystal ball bob is (again I think) from the orcs & goblins plastic range.
The mage herself is a massive conversion of 3 metal figures. The head is from the previous wood elf mage on foot, the lower dress is from the Dogs of War character Lucruzza Belladonna, the torso/braided pony tail, arms, scarf & bare feet are from the bald headed Sister of Sigmar from the Mordheim range. There was a lot of dremeling involved in this as well a greenstuffing the gaps. The leaf in her hand is from the Catachan setinal sprue.
Second question: the gems are done as GW typical gem instructions but afterthe model is sealed I come back and paint on a gloos coat over the gems. I do this for anything that needs to shine or look wet (mouths of monsters, talons/claws/blood).
Keep'em comin'!
JW

Couple of questions for you...
Are those bottles in her satchel? Were they a bit or all free-sculpted?
Any chance of a rough color breakdown on the hair of the lady?

the bottles are part of Lucruzza's bottom half dress (sculpted? I wish!)
hair: basecoat scorched brown, heavy coat of dark flesh, multiple layers of dark flesh with bronzed flesh mix always lightening the mix with more bronzed, add blazing orange to mix, then just blzing orange, then mix of sun yellow & orange. Then multiple coats of a mix of chestnut ink & orange ink/wash. Tidy up highlights with orange & bronze flesh mix
That should get you close, its been a while since I painted her.
I'm actually pretty proud of the conversion work, paint job isn't as smooth as I wish it could be (just wish I could figure out how to work a glamorweave mage into my list now)

Great looking Mage. Doesn't she have a unit with a huge banner to go along with her? I seem to remember seeing some pics somewhere with her in a unit with a huge leaf banner with some kind of insanely welldone freehand.
