The Sidhe Court Project Log
No More 3rd edition Clone Archers (yes, i'm old  ), and mismatched bases for me. I am overhauling and converting an army I want to use in a series of local tournaments (from 2000 to 2500 Points). So to keep me going I’m going to post a project log. Comments, inspiration, and motivational help all welcomed from my fellow gladers!

The Sidhe race is part of the irish/scotish mythology and generally aligns pretty well with the GW athel loren Mythos. Here are some links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%ADdhe ... s.C3.ADdhe
http://celticsociety.freeservers.com/sidhe.html

This is just a nice dictionary I raid for names:
http://www.efairies.com/fairy_lore.htm

My Army theme is a minor realm within Athel Loren ruled by a Forest Spirit King and Queen. They rule independently but are still part of the Wood elf community (showing fealty to Orion and Ariel of Course).
I have several Variants of this list with the lord choice varying from an archmage, high born, or ancient. The main difference between most of them is how gutsy I feel about magic defense.

Here is my status- I will Update this as I go.

It will be cool to watch you flesh this out.

I love the theme idea with the king and queen and the scratchbuilt Treeman is really cool.

What did you use for your stag?

Not much progress to report, put the sides on a couple movement treys. Here are some picture of the unicorn I had taken previously:

I used the Fey Enchantress unicorn (as noted above), the body and staff from a 5th ed wizard and the upper body from a 3rd ed wizard. The spites are from various sprues, except for the fairy in front (hard to see) which I clipped off of the 3rd ed war wain, and the little blue guy hidding behind the monolith (from one of the HE hero kits) is a warmaster goblin.

The spellsinger seems to be falling backwards, try to work on that if you can. I think it is a good conversion, though.

I love the owl, and the base is great. Would you mind telling how did you do it?

Where are the stag's wildcats from? Warmaster pieces, maybe?

Finally, that treeman is MASSIVE. Neat.

Perhaps your colour palette seems limited (most browns are too reddish for my taste), but then, that could be the pics. Keep up the good work!

I was going for "Looking at her staff while casting" , but it does look akward close up, on the game table its kinda nice as you can see her better from the players angle. I'll have to contemplate changes after the bulk of the other stuff is done though.

They are small pewter pieces I picked up at a toy soldier store somewere. Pretty simpley shape theough that would be easy to scult. The spite rider is a warmaster skink with some GS legs.

Well hmm, I was going for some consistancy across the army and was trying not to complicate the colors too much. I am a little obsessed with chestnut ink though which gives things a redish tint. Let's see how you feel after a couple more units come together. I can always go back and re-highight the browns . . . . My primary colors are a Mustardy Yellow and Dark red, with greens and browns for the details (going for summer)

Lets see . . . the rock is an actual rock (piece of slate smashed with a hammer). The fallen way stone is from the HE mage kit. The flocking is a bunch of random weed and dried flower debree I have collected mixed with another wide array of random herbs from the kitchen. I have a nice big bag of sweet smelling forest debree flock. The tall grass clusters I got from a rail road terrain store and there are small patches of dark green static grass.

I'm contemplating adding some flowery spots as per this tutorial:
http://www.asrai.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10713

This might bring things back emphasize "Summer" better as long as I don't overdue it.

Thanks for the input!

Well I have not made much progress as of late (work has been sucking the life out of me). But I could use a little input on which dryads to use. I have 3 sets painted up , but only need two for the list I will be running. Which of these do you think fits in the best with the other models

A: Two Tone Terrors

Image

Image

b: Meanie Greenies:

or

c: The Mahogony Maidens (aka mostly browns)

The Mahogony Maidens and the Two Tone Terrors go better with all the warm tones you used. The green Dryads are a bit bright for the rest of the army. And the Two Tone Terrors will be a decent addition to add some of the gray that you've used on the Tree-Kin. Army's looking good.

Ok I've really slacked off with the last few weeks, drama asside, I had a couple excuses.
I was going to get it ready for the SAWS challenge in Sacramento, but I have a hockey tournment the same weekend . . . so I got unmotivated and then distracted with a couple other projects . . . .

Here are some picutures of my back yard "legendary Battles" scale terrian project!
Image

Image

At least the kids think its legendary (yes that is an actually stone tower I'm assembling from random rocks I gathered in the backyard. finnally a castle of my own, I mean for my daughters.

I also completed my nagoaroth terrain set, here is an oveview.
Image

More pics (and terrain rules) here:
http://www.ulthuan.net/forum/viewtopic. ... 496#556496

I do have a sneak peak of my partially painted Wild rider conversion, based on the old mounted daemonettes, lots of painting left to do here:
Image
Image

Well, now I've delayed things too long. There is a local 2250 tournament this Saturday, and I'm going to try and see if I can finish up enough of the project to field a force . . .

Kudos on the Mounted daemonette conversions Ender. I wanted to do the same thing for my Datk Riders in my new DE army, but now I'll have to shell out $150+ to make the three units I plan on taking. God I wish I had bought them up when I could.

Naggaroth battle table is awsome as well. And the color shceme on the Dryads is just tops. I really like it.

Thanks the conversion was hard, but turned out nice . . .it went a lot better than my painting is going . . . ironically I just bought some more Deamonettes (they are pricy now!). I got lucky as someone was selling a whole set of Slannesh Daemons, and I got 40 Deamonettes, a keeper of Secreats, a fiend and 6 riders for a little over 200, not bad considering the seekers were going for around $25 a pop in seperate auctions, look for large lots of chaos and then part them back out.

Why did I buy so many Daemons, sigh. well I had the extra steed from my Wild Rider conversion and I though, heh I could make some sweet Slaaneesh Hearlds in chariots, I've got extra parts from my lion chariots set . . . and I can sell them on Ebay, and then I started getting attached to the idea, maybe I wont see all of them, but I will need some more models for a whole list, so I bought the book. I already have a half assmbled VC list. but the strength of the current VC was actually putting me off so . . . Daemons here I go. . . . eventually . . .

Ok, well I got 2250 painted in time for the tournament. A draw ( Bloodthirster led daemon army), and two wins (one vs star dragon and 8 Chariots (6 pulled by Lions!)), I got 2nd of 25 in painting scores which is great for me. I'll post a battle report to the Glade of Woe in the next day or so. The list performed pretty well.

Here are some pictures from the tournie, I'll put some more in the forth comming.

I just updated the status above (nearly done!). I will try and get some more pictures of the actual units this weekend.

I have 2 units to finish for the next tournament (2500 pts) in two months, then I may throw away all my yellow and red paints  . Although I amy thinking of adding in some dancers . . .
